and in most cases you seat the bullet to that. but that is not written in stone. In my 378 GNR I seat the bullet out well past the cannelure. It gives me a bit more room for powder without jacking up the pressure with the bullet seated on the powder.The cannelure is just a place in general to seat your bullet to.
