Sometimes trying to pick a device to do many things you can end up with something that can sort of do it all, but not anything well. It creates a mediocre struggle. You have to decide, is it better to select something that does a range of needs well, but is specific. Or perhaps strive for versatility.
A 10 oz. belt knife is great, but you'd rather have a 4 lb. belt hatchet to chop wood. What can you afford in packing for your specific trip.
