to get factory .270 Winchester performance from a carbine length 16" barrel. The sporting applications of short-magnum pressures are problematic, that is well established. So are the existing .260 Remington and 7mm-08 cartridges that bracket
a .270 and perform exceptionally well.

It seems to me the military procurement divisions have been overrun with engineers that shave their heads and wear dresses. From a lifelong firearms enthusiast's perspective it just does not make much sense.
