I know GNR thinks too many extra cylinders are frivolous

and he's right in large. At least half of them just sit around. But on occasion they are so useful. It gives you another caliber option for $250-300 on your custom. With gun prices skyrocketing Gary has held this price down several years and it's only about 1/3 what a whole factory stock gun costs. More economical every day. This rig was purpose built with a .357 length cylinder window. (you know they get longer with caliber. .357,.41, .44/.45 etc) This was so I could scrounge old .357 cylinders and have them more economically re-chambered.

I have the gun done in .401 GNR (10mm on the .44 Mag. case, a baby .410 GNR if you will), and wrinkling everyone's nose, a .40 S&W extra cylinder. I have several 10mm autos so a cyl. for that might be useful, also .38-40 jumps to mind. It's fun too. A .401 Herters was always on my mind for the exotica.

As is, you can hot load the .401 GNR to your heart's desire pushing a 200 gr. to around 1600 fps from a belt gun. The 180's scream past that mark and I've not even tested the light 135 or 155s. Custom heavy 230's are around 1500 fps. With their fantastic sectional density they are nasty on penetration. We shot two rounds through a 400 lb. hog, finishing it, with the Prototype gun and Nate blasted a couple critters with his .401 GNR. If you are into .400s it's a lot to like.
