Did you know the .410 shotshell (67 gauge actually) derived from the .44/40 Win. shot loadings? I think Marbles had one of the first dedicated smoothbore .44/40 guns that morphed into the .410 2-1/2" shotshell. Maybe one of those "bicycle" guns? That itself is telling as to the dating, I guess riding a bicycle was a "thing" in the 1890's? Also, for a cottage industry development for meeting a need I must assume there were lots, and lots, of feral dogs? lol
