I bought my first hiking/camping gun, a S&W 629-1 with 8 3/8" barrel. Even though the store owner took $40 off the price of the $440 revolver, I still didn't have enough to just buy some boxes of ammo. Instead I bought a 44 Magnum Lee Loader, a box of empty brass, a pound of H-110, a box of 240 gr JSP Speer bullets and a box of large pistol primers. I reloaded those first cases several times each, tapping them in with a claw hammer. I didn't have a car so I waited until later at night when the traffic was less and pedaled out to the borough rifle range to shoot it. My holster for it was a Bianchi shoulder holster.
