The old guns of two centuries ago had bore sizes all over. The spec on .38-55 is .379" for a cast bullet. It will still shoot fine through a .375 IF it will chamber. Starline even makes thin wall .38-55 to compensate for needing a bigger bullet.

The .375 Win. simplifies this with a nominal uniform .375" bore and a .376 or .377" bullet will shoot just fine. I took one to AK in a FA 2008 once. The 230 gr. Hornady JSP ran right at 1970 fps from the 15" barrel.

I ended up with Puffy's old Winchester 94 XTR Big-bore .375. It is one of my most prized firearms, a family heirloom now since Roman met Puffy and were instant friends.

I took the LEE 255 gr. FP mould and cut the fat bottom off it (the top of the mould) and use the lube groove for a gas check shank. It makes a nice 215 gr. FPGC and is extra speedy. Really great for the .375 GNR handgun.
